INTERNATIONAL: Modi set for third term as Indian prime minister after allies’ support

India’s Narendra Modi, will take the oath as prime minister for a third consecutive term on Saturday, after his allies chose him as leader in Delhi yesterday.

Despite the Bharatiya Janata Party losing its parliamentary majority, Modi won 240 seats while the opposition, Indian National Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, secured 230.

Modi hails his victory as a triumph for democracy. Meanwhile, Gandhi has opposed the coalition government.
