Darren Scott’s smooth delivery and wealth of knowledge are two of the reasons that people enjoy listening to him.
It’s almost impossible to fault Darren’s handling of current affairs or sports topics and people are aware that Darren will “Just Plain Say It Like It Is.”
‘I’ve always had my heart set on Radio, even during high school I spent many afternoons hanging around Capital Radio Studios with Kevin Savage” Darren says.
But when he matriculated from Delasalle College in 1981, instead of pursuing a career in Radio, Darren headed for Pretoria to study medicine at the University of Pretoria.
While at TUKS he spent a lot of time at TUKS Fm which was still only a campus radio station back then. His interest in medicine faded quickly and in his second year he decided to abandon his medical degree and pursue a BA Communications Degree at RAU.
Not long into his first year at RAU Scott was offered a job at Capital Radio, and the rest as they say, is history. Darren has 35 years of experience on radio and 25 years of experience on television.
He has presented on Capital radio, 702, MNET, Supersport, 5FM, East Coast Radio, Jacaranda 94.2 and Hot 91.9FM. Scott is no spring chicken in broadcasting, having pioneered a new style of radio with his various radio shows.
He has been nominated for over 30 Liberty Radio Awards, of which he has won 14, including the Best Breakfast Presenter or Show for every year he was nominated.
He was also the SA Sports Journalist of the Year in 1997, and has won 1 X You Magazine Personality of the Year Award and 2 X People Magazine Sports Presenter of the Year awards.
Darren is the founder of Ballz Visual Radio – South Africa’s pioneering internet sports radio station. He was the first presenter ever in SA to host two prime time radio shows-a-day – Breakfast on Jacaranda and PM Drive on East Coast, for 2 years, and more recently did the same with Hot 91.9FM and OFM.
Currently Darren is still syndicating his 35 years of radio experience, with the 9-12am show weekdays on Mix 93.8FM, and continues to host the OFM PM Drive Show, as well as providing the (packaged) Weekend Breakfast Shows for Bok Radio in Cape Town. He also hosts an internet rugby talk show “Elephant in the Room” with World Cup winning rugby legend, James Small.
Darren is ideal for any appearance, whether it be Master of Ceremonies, Guest Speaking, Hosting or Partaking in A Question & Answer Session or merely making an appearance and mingling at any function throughout the country.
With Darren‟s past experience, inspiring stories and brilliant sense of humor he is no doubt the right person to make your next function a huge success.
